Who we are
Belitung Bay was born in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, sparked by a simple but daring question: Could exceptional coffee be sustainably grown just steps from the sea?

Driven by curiosity and a passion for Coffee, we turned to Liberica - a rare and often overlooked coffee variety with deep roots in Southeast Asia’s coffee heritage. Despite having no prior experience in cultivation, the first plantings on the tropical shores of Belitung Island flourished beyond expectations.
What began as an experiment grew into a mission. By 2025, Belitung Bay was founded: a brand dedicated to celebrating the unique flavours of Liberica coffee grown in view of the island’s iconic lighthouse, nourished by ocean breezes and rich island soil.

At Belitung Bay today, we honour the resilience of Liberica, the pristine beauty of Belitung’s environemnt, and the craft of producing specialty coffee as bold and remarkable as the journey that inspired it.

How Belitung Bay Coffee is Made
1. Planting
The journey begins with carefully planting high-quality Liberica coffee seeds in fertile soil, nurtured to thrive in tropical climates
2. Harvesting
Ripe coffee cherries are handpicked at their peak to ensure exceptional flavor and quality.
3. Cleaning & Sorting
Each batch is meticulously cleaned and sorted to remove impurities and separate premium cherries.
4. Drying
The coffee beans are sun dried and turned regularly on a single layer to achieve the ideal moisture level of 10-12%.
5. Hulling
The beans are machine hulled to remove the dried fruit layer to reveal the precious green beans inside
6. Sizing & Grading
Beans are hand sorted by size, density, and quality, ensuring only the finest make it to the next stage.
7. Green Beans
The raw, unroasted green coffee beans are carefully stored and packed.
8. Roasting
Through expert roasting to light, medium or dark levels, green beans are transformed into aromatic, flavor-rich coffee ready to be enjoyed.
9. Packaging
Sealed with care, our coffee stays fresh and flavorful, ready to be brewed and enjoyed.

Sustainable Practices
Natural Fertiliser
We use coffee byproducts, animal manure, and organic materials to create our own fertiliser on the plantation. We are working towards stopping the use of chemical fertilisers entirely.

Water Reservoir
We use water from a natural water reservoir on the plantation that is replenished by a natural spring and rainwater during the wet season.
Yellow Clove Cover
We are introducing clove ground cover on our plantation to help to reduce soil evaporation, erosion, and help to sustain nitrate levels.
